About a Doula
A Doula:
-
-provides emotional support and physical comfort measures
-
-offers an objective viewpoint, and assistance to the woman in getting the information she needs to make decisions

-assists the mother and partner in preparing for and carrying out their plans for the birth
-
-offers continuous support during labor
-
-recognizes birth as a key life experience that you will remember all of your life
A Doula does not:
-
-perform any clinical tasks
-
-make decisions for you
I have a partner, why do I need a Doula?

-often partners have a limited knowledge about birth and what occurs during one
-
-some partners want to be very involved and some wish to enjoy the delivery without being the main support. Either way I'll be able to encourage the partner to use comfort techniques or step in when a break is needed

-some labors can be long and it is helpful to have a Doula to support both of you
